Museum will be a picture of history

A LANDMARK art installation which will project photographs of Evesham’s history onto the Almonry Museum is set to launch this autumn.

The Almonry Projection, which is part of the Enlighten Project, has been approved by Wychavon planners to run for one year.

Every night from this autumn from dusk to 11pm, a variety of still photographs will be projected slowly on to the museum depicting Evesham’s history, including the River Avon, Evesham Abbey, the First and Second World Wars, Simon De Montfort and horticulture.

The Almonry Projection is part of the first phase of the Enlighten Project along with the War Memorial and The Bell Tower.

Fund-raising is ongoing to fund phase two which will see the exterior of All Saints Church and the archway to the Abbey Gardens lit up.

Coun Rob Adams, portfolio holder for Community Engagement, Culture and Sport at Wychavon District Council, said: “It is great news to hear the Almonry Projection will be launching soon and I want to thank everyone involved in making the project a reality.

“I hope people enjoy the photographs and learn about Evesham’s rich history.”

Bengeworth Coun Martin King said: “The Enlighten project, and in particular the Almonry Projection, are key in supporting tourism in Evesham. It is not only a boost to the local night time economy but it also provides a diverse

and vibrant town centre with so much to offer to residents and visitors”.
