MP gets grilling in college visit

STUDENTS and staff from Evesham College welcomed town MP Nigel Huddleston for a tour around the venue before he was grilled by students in a question and answer session.

During the tour, Mr Huddleston visited all departments across the college including a new specialist engineering centre due to be launched next month and features a metrology and mechanical science laboratory, a fully equipped CAD suite including 3D printer, as well a refurbished workshop area.

The Mid Worcestershire MP shared his experiences of life in Parliament and encouraged students to consider getting involved in politics, whatever their beliefs.

When questioned on his view of Prime Minister Theresa May, Mr Huddleston said she was quite funny but this did not come across in her public image.

“I was also particularly impressed with the college’s link with local businesses which enables it to tailor its curriculum to address the demand for trained workers in the area. This partnership was shown by the significant investment made by the Worcestershire LEP in the creation of a state-of-the-art engineering centre,” he said.

“The future looks very positive indeed. I can see that the college provides good employment prospects and gives young people the right skills to enable Worcestershire to continue to thrive.”

The visit was organised by Public Services course tutor Nicola Jones, whose students had met Mr Huddleston when they visited the Houses of Parliament on an educational trip last November.

“It was lovely to meet the MP again, and be able to show him around Evesham College.

“The students really benefited from seeing him again and ask questions directly relating to the area we all live,” she said.
