THE IMPORTANCE of the caravan industry has been given backing by Evesham’s MP to maintain their growth and encourage tourism to the area.

The importance of the caravan industry was emphasised to Sir Peter Luff at a meeting with representatives of the National Caravan Council (NCC) in the House of Commons last week.

The council supports Ranch Caravan Parks Ltd in Honeybourne and Clesse (UK) Ltd, manufacturers and suppliers of LPG equipment for caravans in Drakes Broughton.

Mr Luff, said: “The caravan sector presents a manufacturing success story, with some 95 per cent of touring caravans made here in the UK and 130,000 people employed in the sector.

“The caravan industry is an integral part of our local economy here in Worcestershire and I want to do all I can to support it to ensure it can deliver more jobs and holidays for my constituents.”

The event highlighted the NCC’s services and ideas, including the NCC Training Academy that aims to enhance skills of those working in the sector and the Central Registration & Identification Scheme, the national register for UK touring caravans which provides a service similar to that of the DVLA for vehicles.

Alicia Dunne, NCC deputy director general, said: “Tourism is hugely important for the UK economy, working together we can grow our businesses and provide more employment opportunities and deliver outstanding holiday experiences.”
