MP battling for fairer funding

EVESHAM’S MP Nigel Huddleston has further pushed for fairer funding in Vale schools.

The Mid Worcestershire MP kept up the momentum of funding schools across the Vale on Monday (October 26), by pressing Education Secretary Nicky Morgan, to push the Government on its commitment to make school funding fairer.

Mr Huddleston told Mrs Morgan per pupil funding stands at £4,231 in Worcestershire, whereas in nearby Birmingham it’s £5,218, and asked if she would speak to his constituents about upcoming arrangements that will narrow that gap, upon her visit to the county in a couple of weeks.

Mrs Morgan said: “I’m very much looking forward to my visit to Worcestershire.

“I cannot say what I will be saying at that point, but I know my honourable friend and other members from Worcestershire, including my honourable friend Mr Walker, have been campaigning tirelessly for fairer schools funding for sometime.

“I know they will welcome the nearly £7million extra per year we have given to schools in Worcestershire and I look forward to working on this further.”

Mr Huddleston’s question comes after he joined 111 MPs in writing to the Prime Minister, calling on the Government to deliver a school funding reform to benefit the lowest funded education authorities in England, which includes Worcestershire.
