AN AMBITIOUS bid to raise £49,000 for a memorial window to commemorate the end of the First World War has reached the halfway point and residents are being urged to dig deep to help town council chiefs reach their target.
The window, to be installed in Pershore Cemetery Chapel, will feature images related to both World Wars and a centre panel showing Pershore at peace thanks to the sacrifice of all those who served in the conflicts.
It will face the war graves section of the cemetery and council chiefs have already raised an incredible £25,456 towards the cost. The coffers were boosted with £2,000 from a quiz night at Pershore Library and town council bosses were so overwhelmed with the response they hope to organise a further event in the coming weeks.
A town council spokesperson said: “We are hoping for real boost as we strive to reach the £23,500 still needed. All donors will have their names, and an inscription of their choice, in a Book of Remembrance, currently on display at the Town Hall.”
