AN EVESHAM care supervisor has been recognised for her work during lockdown by being shortlisted for a national Covid Hero award.

Mel Fenton is lead supervisor at Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon; she was promoted during the Covid-19 pandemic and has been recognised for her relentless hard work and attention to detail.

The awards replace the care providers normal annual ceremony after bosses vowed to recognise the immense bravery, heroism and effort shown by all team members during such unprecedented times.

Mel was shortlisted in the top 15 entrants from across all Bluebird Care franchises nationwide.

She was promoted from supervisor to lead supervisor in March, just as it was announced the UK was entering into nationwide lockdown.

From her years of experience as a care assistant, Mel extended herself with increased responsibilities to ensure staff and customers were well-looked after.

She managed a team of supervisors, ensured all regular tasks were up to date, worked overtime and even rearranged annual leave so she could cover home visits when other assistants have been isolating.

Mel recently gave up a weekend to give one of her customer’s gardens a makeover, she has also loaned her own TV to a customer, organised dog grooming and donated clothes to customers and their families.

David Benjamin, director of Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon, said: “She has continued to go above and beyond to ensure both her customers and members of staff are well-looked after – she is an inspiration.”
