MAYORS from across the district enjoyed a patriotic fish-and-chip supper and concert last Thursday (April 23) at Evesham Town Hall in celebration of St George’s Day.
A ‘chain gang’ representing the heads of Alcester, Stratford, Worcester, Tewkesbury and Whitnash councils attended the event at the invitation of the Evesham mayor, Councillor John Clatworthy, to raise funds for his charity appeal, alongside local guests.
The Grade II-listed hall rang out to live musical entertainment from Avonbank brass band, who delighted the audience with a repertoire that featured modern and traditional classics, including Elgar’s Nimrod from the Enigma Variations.
Coun Dr Matt Lamb, mayor of Worcester told the Observer: “It was a real pleasure to join the Mayor of Evesham for such a warm and well-supported St George’s Day celebration.
“The evening perfectly captured the spirit of community, bringing people together through music, good food, and a shared sense of local pride – all in support of some truly worthwhile causes.”
Organiser Coun Robbie Raphael, from Evesham Town Council added: “It was a great night, Avonbank were on top form and the atmosphere truly wonderful. Evesham did St George’s Day proud.”
A raffle and tombola helped to raise around £400 for Evesham Volunteer Centre, Evesham Dementia Alliance and Caring Hands in the Vale.
