Man jailed for ten years for attack in prison

Rob George 30th May, 2019   0

A PRISON inmate has been convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent at Worcester Crown Court after a three day trial.

David McKenzie, aged 50, of HMP Long Lartin, was found guilty by a majority jury verdict today (Thursday)

He has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, which will be added to his current sentence.

This follows a West Mercia Police investigation into the incident that occurred on May 25 last year

The incident took place within HMP Long Lartin whilst the Governor Clare Pearson was talking to inmates. She was struck by the defendant and sustained a bilateral fracture of the jaw.

Following the sentencing, DC Andy Knowles said: “This was an abhorrent assault of the governor of HMP Long Lartin, who was simply doing her job. I am pleased we were able to put a case together to charge and subsequently secure a conviction against McKenzie for his actions.

“Prison staff, like everyone else have the right to work safely and without threat of violence.”
