A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of dealing crack cocaine and heroin in Evesham town centre on Wednesday afternoon (October 22) after being reported for shoplifting.
The 51-year-old was quickly apprehended by police following reports of theft from a shop premises, and following a search, was found to have 50 wraps of suspected class A drugs on his person.
Half of the wraps are suspected to be heroin, and half are suspected crack cocaine.
PC Adam Johns and PC Matt Beards also recovered some of the stolen items and other suspected stolen items from other shoplifting incidents.
The man has also been arrested on suspicion of committing a shoplifting offence.
Police Sergeant Duncan Eades of Evesham town centre team said: “This was a good and swift arrest by two PCs on the beat doing a hot spot patrol around the town.
“They quickly acted on information given to us by our business community to apprehend and arrest the shoplifting suspect, and they found the suspected class A drugs, which are now off the streets, too.
“This result shows the importance of officers in Evesham having a good working relationship with our local businesses, who helped us identify and locate him, and we thank them for their ongoing support.”
The man is currently in police custody.
