ONE man and a child were seriously injured on Saturday (April 5) when the car they were travelling in was involved in a collision with an empty lorry trailer and burst into flames.
Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the at 5.24pm last Saturday, April 5 to the accident in Piddlebrook Lane, Wyre Piddle, Pershore.
Both vehicles were well alight and the fire was fought by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
Three casualties, who had managed to get out of the vehicle before the arrival of the fire service, were handed over to the care of the three crews from West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) who attended along with the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford and police.
A WMAS spokesperson said: “The man was treated for serious injuries before being airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and a child was also treated for serious injuries before being taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital by land ambulance.”
A third patient was assessed and discharged at the scene.
The fire service has confirmed that the incident was dealt with by 7.39pm.
