A 20-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital following a collision with a car on the A46.

Emergency services were called to the Simon De Montfort Bridge at about 1.20pm this afternoon (Thursday).

The motorbike rider has been taken to the Major Trauma Centre at the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire with a badly broken leg.

The driver of the car was uninjured in the incident.

An ambulance and paramedic area support officer also attended the scene.

The road, between Twyford and Badsey roundabouts, was closed for a couple of hours but Highways England has said the road has reopened in both directions.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of a collision on the A46 near Simon de Montfort Bridge at around 2.35pm today.

“The collision involved a motorbike and a car travelling between the Badsey and Twyford roundabouts.

“The air ambulance is in attendance and the man driving the motorbike is being taken to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire with lower body injuries that are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

“Road currently closed until the helicopter leaves.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found a car that had damage to the front offside quarter; the motorbike was on the opposite side of the road against the kerb.

“The rider, a 20 year old man had suffered a broken left leg.  He was immobilised, had his leg splinted and had a pelvic binder attached as a precaution before he was airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire.

“The man driving the car was uninjured but shaken by the incident.”
