A PACKED schedule of historical, literary and live music events will take place at the The Fleece Inn in Bretforton this weekend.

This evening (Friday) The Fleece welcomes the Coalville Male Voice Choir to perform their rousing renditions.

Those choosing to listen to these powerful voices can do so free of charge, but are encouraged to make a £5 donation towards funds for the Bretforton Village School Starter Band scheme which provides free tuition to pupils at the school, as a means of introducing them to a brass instrument.

Tutored by two members of the Bretforton Silver Band, the scheme is a great way of helping maintain the musical tradition in the village.

Tomorrow and Sunday (May 11 an 12), the Worcester Re-enactors will hold their living history camps, re-creating out life through the ages, with Medieval, 17th Century, American Civil War and Second World War camps, all authentically capturing the periods.

The camps are free to attend and will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, with timetabled musket displays throughout the day.

Nigel Smith, landlord of The Fleece Inn said: “As an historic pub, with a timeline extending back some 600 years and now owned by the National Trust, we love welcoming people who share our passion for times gone by and live music.

“This promises to be a packed and buzzing weekend, with something for history, literary and music lovers alike. All the events from Friday through to Sunday are fun, interactive and highly entertaining to watch. Come along and get involved for all or part of the weekend!”

The historic theme continues on Sunday evening at 8pm, with the chance to meet William Shakespeare himself in the funny one-man show ‘Your Bard’ starring Royal Shakespeare Company actor Nicholas Collett who takes audiences on a journey through the life of the world’s most famous writer: his childhood, his glory days at the Globe, his ardent defence of his reputation.

The show mingles biography with snapshots of Elizabethan life and snippets from Shakepeare’s plays, and is packed with emotional punches and entertaining punchlines, all in the historic atmospheric setting of The Fleece.

Tickets cost £10 and are available from www.thefleeceinn.co.uk
