Magic Maisie shines for NHS

A COUNTY youngster’s unique fund-raiser for the NHS has exceeded all expectations.

Just three weeks ago, when seven-year-old Maisie Gibson decided to raise £50 to show her support for her NHS Heroes, she never thought she would have sold 800 badges and raised £2,800.

Inspired by seeing Captain Tom on TV and her grandmother – an NHS nurse at Malvern Community Hospital – survive her own battle with COVID-19, the caring Malvern youngster wanted to do something to support the staff and patients of Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospitals Trust.

Supported by mum Charlotte, sisters Heidi and Felicity and with a few metres of rainbow ribbon and some safety pins, Maisie started decorating the ribbons, and through social media starting selling them to neighbours and local businesses, as well as sending hundreds to NHS staff.

Charlotte said: “As soon as we set up Maisie’s Mission, it all went a bit crazy. Maisie has had ribbons, envelopes, pins and even stamps donated. Waitrose even sent some sweets as a well done. We are now up to 800 badges and 120 metres of ribbon. We are all so proud of her and amazed by the generosity of the Worcestershire community.”

Maisie is so grateful for all the support, she has now set herself a new target for her mission to reach £3,000 before she hands over her donation to the hospital charity.

She said: “We have a few more badges left and, if anyone would like to support my mission, it would really amazing to get to £3,000.”

Jason Levy from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, said: “The charity has been overwhelmed by the incredible support from the local community.

“Maisie and her family are truly inspiring and their passion and generosity has had a tremendous positive impact on the morale of our staff and patients across all the Trust hospitals.”
