Luxury spa gives insight on working role for students

BEAUTY therapy students in Evesham have taken part in a workshop hosted by industry professionals from an award-winning luxury spa in the Cotswolds.

Dormy House Spa has held a massage workshop with Level 3 beauty therapy students at Evesham New College.

Spa manager Bobby Griffiths, along with treatment manager Rosie Holland and spa supervisor Meg Riach, visited the college to speak to the students about Dormy House and the career opportunities within the industry.

They also delivered a 90-minute massage workshop, giving students an insight into some of the techniques used at the spa.

Students have now been invited to visit Dormy House and take a tour of the facilities, and any interested students will be able to interview for a part time position at the spa.

It is the second year Bobby and her team have met with students from the college, and four students are currently working at the spa after being successful at interview last year.

Bobby said: “I started my career as a therapist and have been in the spa industry for 29 years, and I’ve been able to travel all over the world through work.

“When I joined Dormy House two years ago, I reached out to Evesham New College as a way to connect with the next generation of therapists, and since then we’ve struck up a really nice relationship.

“The visits have been a way of not only giving the students an insight into Dormy House, our onboarding process and development opportunities, but also the day-to-day life of a therapist and the career progression routes available.

“By this point they are qualified in nails and facials, so those who have been successful can work with us part time around their studies. We now look forward to welcoming this year’s cohort in the future.

“We’ll also be holding more workshops with the students and we will be working with the college to tailor these to the curriculum to enhance the students’ knowledge and skills even further.”

Debra Parry, beauty therapy tutor at Evesham New College, added: “The workshop was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain hands-on experience from industry professionals based at one of the country’s most prestigious spas.

“We are delighted to have built up such a strong relationship with the spa, and it is wonderful that Bobby and her team are so passionate about supporting the development of young people looking to progress into the industry.

“We have some extremely talented students at the college, which has been highlighted by some of them successfully gaining positions at Dormy House.

“We look forward to both visiting the spa and also welcoming the team back to the college to host further workshops in the future.”
