A FUND-RAISER in memory of a lorry driver who died in a ‘horrendous’ collision involving four HGVs on the M5 has been launched by his grieving colleagues.

Bart Jasek died last Wednesday (August 3) following the crash on the northbound carriageway between junctions eight and seven.

The 35-year-old died at the scene of what the police declared a ‘major incident’ which took place at 4.30am and left the carriageway closed for nearly 12 hours.

Now, colleagues at his employer Driving Force have launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for his funeral and support his family, including his ten-year-old daughter.

“He was always happy, friendly and full of energy, an absolute joy to be around,” the tribute on the page read.

Police confirmed a 57-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with serious injuries and a number of other people were also injured.

Insp Darren Godsall said: “This was an horrendous collision which led to a man losing his life and a number of other people being injured, as well as causing serious traffic disruption for many others.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died, and all those affected by the incident.

“We would like to thank drivers for their patience during the day but advise that they continue to find alternative routes for their journeys.”

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the collision or any of the vehicles involved is asked to visit www.westmercia.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/ quoting incident 78 of 3 August.
