Lockdown lifting mooted as time for celebration

Evesham Editorial 27th Mar, 2021   0

A LEADING Evesham director has urged local people to come forward to discuss proposals for a celebration in the heart of the town.

Eric Jones made the call as further Covid restrictions are set to be lifted on Monday to include two people being able to meet outdoors on in their back gardens.

Speaking to the Observer, Mr Jones felt the time was right to gauge interest in a possible celebration of the arts later this summer, after the proposed lifting of many of the pandemic restrictions which is set for June 21.

“My drama group, The Festival Players, and I are planning some events for the town during the summer and would be keen to know that there is some interest in – for example – a weekend festival of drama and music in the open air, for all to enjoy,” he said.

“Perhaps you are a young band, eager to play again to an audience. Perhaps you are a drama student keen to take part in an event involving words and some acting skills.

“Perhaps you are a local business who would offer even the most modest amount of support or sponsorship for a professional big band concert, or music from local musicians, a children’s entertainer?

“Even a donation towards publicity and promotion or buying some advert space in the programme would be welcome,” he added.
