THE OWNER of a historic city shop will be taking to the stage as the narrator for Worcester Philharmonic’s New Year Gala to bring the story of The Nutcracker alive.

Gabrielle Bullock will bring the story of act one of the iconic tale alive in her inimitable way for the gala on January 5 at Pershore Abbey.

She is well known in the area as a lady of many talents; singer, actor and businesswoman and had taken the role of narrator for The Proteus Ensemble, a group that consists of singers from all over the UK.

Gabrielle has also sung at some of the Three Choirs’ Festival concerts for many years at Pershore Abbey and is a member of the Worcester Festival Choral Society.

In addition to these activities, Gabrielle owns the famous Bygones of Worcester, an antiques business which has enjoyed a high reputation since it was established by the family, a century ago.

She is a member of the London and Provincial Antiques Dealers’ Association and is a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and Diamond Member of the Gemmological Association.

The Nutcracker story is an enchanting fairy tale. Two children enjoy their Christmas party, but when all the guests have departed their toys come to life and battle against an army of rats. The action is controlled by a magician and after many twists and turns, he ensures a happy ending is achieved.

After the interval, guests will be taken on a visit Austria for New Year Viennese favourites by Strauss, Suppe and Lehar. The concert will be conducted by Neil Aston, the orchestra’s principal conductor.

Tickets for the concert, which takes place at 2.30pm, are available from Tourist Information Centres in Worcester, Pershore, Evesham and Malvern and at www.ticketsource.co.uk/worcesterphilharmonicorchestra
