Lloyds Bank announces one of its Vale branches will close

LLOYDS Bank in Broadway is set to close its doors following a series of nationwide cut-backs.

The High Street branch will close on September 12 this year as part of a three-year programme which will see nearly 400 branches close across the country.

Bank bosses earmarked their Broadway branch for closure due to 71 per cent fewer personal customers using the branch than a ‘typical Lloyds Bank branch.’

In a statement, Lloyds Bank said: “We have made the difficult decision to close this branch because of the changing way customers choose to bank with us, which has resulted in customers using it less often.

“You can continue to use any other Lloyds branch and the nearest alternative branch is the Chipping Campden branch.

“Additionally, one of our new Lloyds mobile branches will visit the Broadway area which customers can use for many of their everyday banking needs.”

From September 12, the nearest Lloyds branches for Broadway residents will be in Chipping Camden and Evesham.

Rob MacGregor, national officer the Unite trade union, said: “The continuous stream of branch closures announced by the UK’s retail bank branches appears to show no signs of ending.

“Lloyds Banking Group’s rationale for branch closures is the claimed customer preference towards the use of technology across banking.

“However, this simply doesn’t ring true when it’s clear that many customers still value the face to face engagement with experienced and knowledgeable bank staff.”
