LIVE: Roads closed in Evesham and Pershore as Avon floods

Evesham Editorial 9th Feb, 2024 Updated: 9th Feb, 2024   0

A NUMBER of roads remain closed in Evesham and Pershore after the River Avon burst its banks for the second time in a month.

Drivers were warned to collect their vehicles before Waterside was closed by the county highways crews this morning

Heavy rain throughout yesterday (Thursday) has seen the Avon rise significantly and meant action now needs to be taken.

In a post on X, Worcestershire County Council Highways and Travel said:

“We are in the process of closing Waterside, Evesham due to flooding – some parked cars remain, we advise getting them moved ASAP”

A flood warning has been issued for the River Avon by the Environment Agency which said:

“We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in the Waterside Road area, as well as the road and car park on the meadow. Pershore Road Bridge may also be flooding.”

The Avon is expected to peak between 3.1metres and 3.4metres this evening (Friday)

River levels are expected to remain high over the next few days. Pedestrians are asked to avoid using low lying footpaths while drivers are urged to plan their journeys.

CLOSURES DUE TO FLOODING

  • Waterside, Evesham
  • Jubilee Bridge, Fladbury
  • Brook Lane, Cropthorne
  • Besford Bridge
  • Pershore Bridge
  • Eckington Bridge
