Link road finally open as new bridge completed

Evesham Editorial 25th Sep, 2022   0

MOTORISTS are finally able to use the Pershore Northern Link Road after the final piece of the long-running project was completed.

Highways bosses at Worcestershire County Council have taken the wraps off the route following completion of work on a new bridge over the North Cotswolds railway line.

The road provides a link between the A44/B4083 and B4083 Wyre Road roundabouts north of Pershore.

Over the next few months there will be some minor works ongoing on site, which include vegetation planting and the installation of signs.

To allow some of the work to take place, there will, at times, be the need for traffic management and an overnight road closure of the new link road will be required to remove some temporary works from the bridge.

The classification of roads in the area will change, with Station Road becoming the B4083 and Wyre Road and the Link Road being upgraded to the A4104, with a 40mph speed limit throughout.

Coun Marc Bayliss, county council cabinet member for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills, said: “It’s great this brand-new road is open and people travelling within the area will now be able to see the benefits it will bring.

“This new link road, alongside the other works that we have undertaken in the Pershore area, will help to tackle congestion, improve journey times and support economic growth and development in the area.

“Although the road is now open, please be aware that there are still some works taking place on site.”

These works are part of the wider Pershore Infrastructure Improvements Scheme, which aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic links and enhance cycling and walking routes, in and around the Pershore area.

As part of this scheme, works have recently completed on Wyre Road on the construction of a new cycle/footway, as well as the installation of a new kerb line, enhanced drainage and additional streetlighting.

Works have also taken place to make improvements to Pinvin Junction, which included the construction of a new slip road, the widening of approaches to the junction and the addition of new footways; works have also been undertaken to make improvements to the Station Road/Wyre Road junction.
