Lily's last journey revealed as family say thanks

Evesham Editorial 12th Sep, 2020   0

THE LIFE of a brave Drakes Broughton nine-year-old will be remembered as her family prepare to say goodbye to their princess.

Lily May Filmer passed away on Saturday (September 5) at Acorns Children’s Hospice in Worcester with her family around her as her three year fight against acute lymphoblastic leukaemia came to an end.

And now her devoted family have shared details of her last goodbye and how the local community can play their part ahead of a private celebration of Lily’s life on September 21.

To meet Coronavirus restrictions only those from the same household should be stood in a group, any groups of mixed households should be maximum of six people.

Lily will travel along Pershore High Street at 10am on her way towards her home.

At 10.30am, Lily’s princess carriage will carry her into her home village, Drakes Broughton.

She will pass her friends and teachers at school then along Walcot Lane before she travels down Shrubbery Road. Lily and her family will then leave the village for their private service.

As Lily lived and dressed as a princess , her family hope well-wishers will dress to impress. She loved all things glittery, sparkly, elegant and, of course, purple

In a statement released through Jackson’s Funeral Directors, her family said: “Her love of her family ensured she passed into her last rest, in her mum’s arms with Craig, her brothers and sisters by her side after a normal noisy family lunch.”

“Lily touched so many hearts and although her family would love to share the celebration with you all, unfortunately the current restrictions have made this difficult.”

“We have been supported by family, friends, colleagues, the public, local businesses and various charities.

“So others can receive the same level of kindness, if you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, it will be split between Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and Acorns Children’s Hospice.

A candlelight vigil in Lily’s memory will take place tonight (Saturday) from 7pm.

Organisers are asking people to light a candle at home and post a photograph or video with the hashtags #lightsforlily and #lilysfreedomfight
