Lifelines are focus of the week

Evesham Editorial 15th May, 2022   0

VITAL lifelines for those suffering with and caring for Evesham residents with dementia will be at the forefront of a week of events in the town.

To mark Dementia Awareness Week 2022, there are several groups and events to offer advice and support those tackling the illness.

On Monday (May 16) from 1pm to 3pm, Wallace House on Oat Street is holding an event, offering ‘a cuppa and cake’ and a chance to meet others and find out about ‘Living with Dementia’.

Members of the Evesham Dementia Action Alliance (EDAA) volunteer group will be on hand at this event and a separate event to be held on Thursday (May 19) – see page four for more.

The EDAA has been running for many years now and has launched a new website to signpost families in this area.

During the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, it was hard for volunteers to contact and support those living with dementia.

Support groups were put on hold with no face-to-face meetings, doctors were not seeing and diagnosing patients and due to data handling the EDAA found it hard to keep in touch.

A spokesperson said: “This emphasised the need for a website more than ever so now you can contact the EDAA through the website and access groups and events happening in the area.”

In addition to the EDAA, the town’s Older People’s Forum will also be attending Thursday’s Living Well event.

The group has been an advocate for local people aged 50 and above for 15 years, giving them a voice and raising awareness of issues affecting them.

They meet on a Monday morning at the Evesham Town Hall from 10.30am to midday. The exercise is mostly chair-based, to music.

The tea service at All Saints Church on Friday afternoons plus the new Evesham Meeting Centre at Church Street are offering support for those living with dementia their families.
