Life buoy thieves branded 'mindless vandals' by town's mayor

THIEVES who stole life buoys from along the River Avon in Evesham have been branded ‘mindless vandals’ by the town’s Mayor.

A Vale resident discovered the life-saving equipment had been stolen from the stations at Hampton Playing Field and at the rear of Hampton Cemetery last Wednesday morning.

After making the discovery, the passer-by reported the theft to Evesham Town Council, who are responsible for the life-saving equipment. Council chiefs then replaced the two life buoys later that day.

Coun Jones spoke out about the incident to highlight how the safety of residents and visitors was put at risk by the thieves.

Speaking to the Observer, Coun Jones said: “It was sad to see that such vital lifesaving equipment was removed by mindless vandals.

“We had to act fast to ensure no loss of protection for the public.

“Now, more than ever, our community should be pulling together and looking out for each other, not creating unnecessary and wholly avoidable dangers.

“I would ask all parents to talk to their children about caring for our wonderful town,” he added.
