Lib Dems seething over Tory ‘neglect’

EVESHAM’S Liberal Democrats attacked local Conservatives for their ‘clueless neglect’ of the town as they launched their local election campaign.

As well as fielding candidates for the town council, the party have unveiled their ‘Time for Change’ campaign for Wychavon District Council elections on May 2 when they are standing candidates in Little Hampton and Bengeworth.

Among the priorities for the Liberal Democrats include breathing new life into the heart of the town with a mixed shopping, leisure and residential centre fit for the future.

Party chiefs have also pledged to end the traffic chaos in the town with the development of a ring road and an end to the ‘ludicrous situation in which the town has two bridges, one of which is effectively one way, causing severe bottlenecks through town and along the Cheltenham Road’.

“While we cannot create communities, it’s vital we create places in which communities can form and flourish,” said branch chairman and candidate for Little Hampton, David Quayle.

“I have lived in Little Hampton for almost 20 years and in that time I have watched this once lovely town deteriorate into a traffic-gridlocked grind with a dead centre.

“This makes me both saddened and very angry and that is exactly why I am standing. It’s time for change and the complacent Conservatives need to be reminded they have to do some work for their votes.

“Enough is enough and they must now move out of the way for new ideas. It’s time for change,” he added.
