FREE lunches for Lent are being enjoyed by Pershore office and shop staff thanks to the town’s Baptist Church.
Held every Friday, the weekly giveaway is part of the Churches Together Lenten Appeal on behalf of ‘Wheels for the World’.
The charity sends second-hand wheelchairs to disabled people in Third World countries to help people who often have to crawl everywhere.
Colin Reeves,one of the project organisers, said: “If we saw a disabled person crawling locally we would be horrified and rush to help – but crawlers are normal in many poor lands.”
“It costs just over £40 per chair for repairs and transport so with the 40 days of Lent, we are hopeful of sponsoring very many chair,” he added.
Soup and a roll are offered to everyone in return for a donation, every Friday until April 7 from 12midday to 1.30pm in the church in Broad Street.
