THIS year’s Mayoral civic service in Evesham was well attended and rounded off with the laying up of the old and dedication of a new standard of the Evesham and District Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Evesham Town Council mayor, Councillor Alan Booth thanked all those who attended and spoke passionately of his chosen charities – Garage Art, Shop Motability and Working World.

The service, at All Saints Church on Sunday (April 7), was led by the mayor’s chaplain, Reverand Caroline Green ahead of another service to welcome the new standard.

During the laying up ceremony the Last Post and Reveille was sounded on Trumpet by Carol Hall, during which the Branch Chairman recited the Kohima Epitaph.

Chairman of Evesham RBL, Rev Andy Green said: “We receive this standard into safe keeping in God’s House, here to hang for all times as a reminder to those who pass by of everyone’s duty to the Sovereign and nation.”

After the recital of commitment Mayor, Coun Booth thanked Dima Horodnychi and Ryan John from The De Montfort School, for two ‘outstanding’ performances of classical music.
