THE LAST in the current season of talks hosted by the Vale of Evesham Historical Society will take place on Thursday, May 29 with a Second World War theme.
Local historian and author Vanessa Morgan will be giving a talk titled ‘My Father: POW’ which tells the story of the day-to-day life of a private captured on his way to Dunkirk.
Her dad, Francis Hill, served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and was part of the British Expeditionary Force in 1939.

Vanessa is known for her work on genealogy and local history, particularly in Worcestershire and has written several books and articles on the region’s history.
These include ‘Worcestershire Family History Guidebook’ and ‘The Little History of Worcestershire’.
She also gives talks on various historical topics, including family history, local murders, and World War One.
VEHS organises an annual season of talks and lectures that run from September to May and membership of the society is not necessary to attend.
It meets every last Thursday of the month (except December) at the Friends’ Meeting House in Cowl Street.
Talks cost £3 for members and £5 for non-members, including refreshments.
