Landmark achievement for Keith and Sheila

A HUSBAND and wife team have been honoured by the Badsey Society for their work in keeping a much-loved village landmark looking good all year round.

Keith and Sheila Taylor were presented with the annual Tony Jerram Award for their work in keeping the memorial fountain in the High Street looking tidy and colourful all year round.

The caring pair attracted a number of nominations with one reading: “Their selfless dedication to the memorial is a joy to everyone. It is always kept immaculate with beautiful flowers bought by Keith and Sheila from their own funds and which they refuse to be recompensed for.”

The fountain has stood in the High Street for more than 100 years. It was built by public subscription to commemorate the coronation of King George V in 1911.

In addition, Keith also co-ordinates the voluntary drivers who provide transport for elderly disabled people who attend meetings of the Coronation Street club.

Keith and Sheila were honoured at the 18th AGM of the society. The award is given each year in memory of the late Tony Jerram, the first chairman of the society and is given to somebody who the members feel has contributed to the good of the local community.

Following an interval, Jane Neill gave a talk entitled ‘Extraordinary Deaths in an Ordinary Family’ and Tom Locke spoke of his experience of using DNA to help find out more about his family history.
