Landlord making plans for Nigels

A BRETFORTON landlord is making plans for Nigels across the Vale after discovering no babies were named Nigel in the United Kingdom in the last National Statistics Report.

Fleece Inn landlord Nigel Smith has issued a rallying call to his local namesakes to visit the National Trust pub on Saturday, September 28 for ‘Nigel Night’.

A free drink will be on offer for all Nigels on the night and the evening at the 600 year old National Trust pub near Evesham will include a Nigel-based playlist and entertainment.

The celebration of Nigels hopes to set a new world record for the largest gathering of people with the first name Nigel.

“Before it’s too late and Nigels become extinct, we felt we ought to have a gathering of fellow Nigels,” he said.

“Let’s face it, it’s not a popular name but surely there are enough of us to try and create our lasting mark on British names!

“If you are called Nigel, please come and join me for a free drink and let’s try and set a new Nigel record!”

While last year’s report showed a few brave parents had dubbed their newborns Boris and Jeremy, not one person considered a name dominated by Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage worthy of their bouncing baby.
