A DRINK-DRIVER who left an elderly lady with life-changing injuries after he failed to give way at a roundabout in Evesham and hit another vehicle at speed has been jailed and banned from driving.

Kevin Turner, 65, of Berrington Road, Chipping Campden, was sentenced to 32 months at Worcester Crown Court for causing serious injury.

He was given a further four-month sentence for drink driving to run concurrently and banned from driving for 52 months (four years four months) at which point he will have to retake his test.

The sentence follows the collision on Pershore Road, known locally as Berry Hill, in Evesham on April 9, 2022. Turner failed to give way to a car already travelling around a roundabout hitting the car at speed and with force.

An elderly couple in the car were both injured. The woman passenger suffered life-changing injuries.

Roads Policing Team lead investigator PC Paul Bosley said they were pleased with the result following a lengthy investigation in which Turner had initially refused to accept responsibility for the collision and showed no remorse until finally pleading guilty in February.

PC Bosley said: “Justice was finally served when the driver responsible for this crash finally accepted culpability.

“His poor driving and driving while intoxicated caused this crash and have unfortunately had a major and lasting impact on the innocent victims who became involved in this through no fault of their own.

“These are the people that must continue living this nightmare daily and I am glad the Criminal Justice System has recognised this and imposed the most correct and appropriate sentence to deal with this driver.

“We hope this sends out a message that driving under the influence devastates lives and will not be tolerated and offenders will be brought to justice.”
