EXCITEMENT is building across Evesham ahead of the second ever AsparaFest at Ashdown Farm in Badsey.
Building on the success of the British Asparagus Festival, the event takes place tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday (June 1) and will celebrate the town’s famous link with the vegetable.
CBeebies character Mr Bloom will be the headline act on Saturday and he will be joined this year by Cbeebies stablemate Stefan Gates with Gastronaut Live show on Sunday.
Morris dancing, bhangra and belly dancing will also be on the menu as will cookery demonstrations from local celebrity chef Felice Tocchini as well as food suppliers, growers and farm shops.
In addition, Asparafest has two music and dance stages, a Real Ale and Cider Festival, cookery theatre, street food, food stalls, and lots and lots of Vale asparagus.
Other highlights include appearances from Junkfish Arts and Crafts, EveryBODY dance Aerial Theatre Show, The Lovely Bugs, AnimalMania Zoo, TuttiFrutti Hula and the Wychavon Get Active roadshow.
A climbing wall, cake decorating, willow weaving, body zorbing, a fun fair and swingboats, vintage engines and classic cars will also be on the packed programme of events.
The world’s only Asparamancer, the Asparafairy and of course Gus the Asparagus Man will also be in attendance at the popular weekend.
It is hoped the event will again attract large crowds and event organiser Nigel Smith, said: “AsparaFest will continue to build on the success of the annual Asparagus Festival we hold at The Fleece.
“There is so much support for our asparagus celebrations that we wanted to move it on to the next level and hold it somewhere with more space.
Tickets for Asparafest are on sale now from £6 and the profits from all tickets sold will be donated to the Evesham Bell Tower Appeal.
