INVESTIGATIONS are continuing after the body of a man in his 30s was recovered from the River Avon following a painstaking search by emergency services.

West Mercia Police confirmed the day-long search on Wednesday (November 20) had led to the discovery of the body at about 4.45pm.

The alarm was raised just before 7am when a passer-by saw the man enter the water by Evesham Rowing Club.

Officers from Evesham and the wider West Mercia force area were joined by members of the specialist underwater diving team for the search.

Two fire engines and boats were at the scene on Waterside to assist police to tackle the search in the River Avon which peaked at four metres high during last week’s heavy rain.

One ambulance, two paramedics and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team also attended the scene at the time.

Emergency services recovered the man from the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death is not yet known and the man has been identified by police. His family have been notified.

Officers have linked the discovery to an earlier domestic incident in Forest Gate which the man is believed to have been involved in.

No further details were revealed as the Observer went to press on the Forest Gate incident and investigations are on-going at a property on the street.

In a statement on Facebook, the Worcestershire Polish Association said: “Police have dealt with a serious domestic incident.

“Although the community may experience a heightened police presence this is an isolated incident and there is no current threat to our communities.”
