AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of an 82-year-old Evesham man who was discovered in his minibus in floodwater in Walsall following torrential rain across the Midlands.

Peter Harnwell was rescued by fire crews from his vehicle on Lichfield Road, Rushall at about 2am last Monday, May 28.

Mr Harnwell, who lived on Swan Lane in Evesham, was taken by firefighters to an ambulance crew who were at the water’s edge.

The ambulance crew carried out life support before taking the man to Walsall Manor Hospital, but he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Opening the inquest on Monday, assistant Black Country coroner Emma Serrano said a cause of death for Mr Harnwell had yet to be ascertained.

She adjourned the hearing until Monday, July 9.
