ORGANISERS of the inaugural Hampton Flower Show have hailed it as a huge success after hundreds of visitors flocked to the event.

The show was held at the new village green off Pershore Road, opposite Hampton Flower Shop, last Saturday and featured a variety of stalls, crafts, entertainment and activities.

Hundreds of visitors flocked to the show where there was also a BBQ, a live band, dancers from Vale Dance and Pebworth Morris and other performers.

A number of competitions were also held to find aspiring bakers and gardeners who could grow the biggest vegetables.

Angela Arthur was handed of the honour of being the first name on the show winners trophy after entering a total of 32 categories.

She was placed first in three categories, second in six areas and third in a further five to earn her 35 points and the title of Overall Show Winner 2017.

Lynda Moore, from the organising committee, told the Observer: “The committee were blown away with the outstanding numbers of entries for the first show, more than 400 exhibits were placed in the main marquee.”

“The huge crowd that came to support us on the day was amazing, with many people approaching us to say what a great time they had and hope that this will be repeated next year.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to all of those who supported us both financial support and the community support which made it such a success.”

The event was sponsored by Bloor Homes which raised money for St Andrew’s CE School. The house builder held a raffle and donated a hamper to the lucky winner.

Pupils from St Andrew’s CE School took part in a tallest sunflower competition and photos of their entries were displayed at the event, while pupil Erin Lilley won the competition to design the logo for the show.

Sally Holt, Regional Sales Manager at Bloor Homes Western, said: “The new village green was created as part of our development at The Hamptons, and it made a fantastic setting for the Hampton Flower Show.

“It was so wonderful to see so many residents of our development, who thoroughly enjoyed the event as a community.

“The level of involvement from the local people was brilliant and it was a real pleasure to sponsor the first ever show this year.”
