IN PICTURES: Veterans gather to remember VJ Day

A POIGNANT service to mark the annual VJ Day parade in Evesham saw dignitaries gather from across the town and district.

The annual event took place on Monday (August 15) and marked the moment 77 years ago the Empire of Japan surrendered in the Second World War which in effect ended the conflict.

Recently-appointed vice chairman of Wychavon District Council, Coun Emma Kearsey joined Mayor of Evesham Coun Mark Goodge and newly-appointed Evesham town clerk Jo Adams for the ceremony.

Veterans from the armed forces gathered for the service outside the Almonry Museum to commemorate Victory over Japan which was officiated over by Coun Alan Booth, chairman of the Evesham branch of the Royal British Legion and was attended by standard bearers from across the county.




Legion chaplain Rev Andy Green while Mike Butler played the Last Post and Reville before wreaths were laid on the memorial.

Lt Col (Ret`d) Mark Jackson OBE laid a wreath on behalf of the Burma Star Association while Phillip-Rowne-Speed paid his respects on behalf for the local branch of the Royal British Legion.


Ann Evans of the Evesham branch of the Royal Air Force Association laid a wreath before Nigel Fish of the Worcester branch of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association.
