IN PICTURES: Showing true colours when it comes to royal celebration

A RIGHT Royal celebration was held across Evesham and Pershore to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with street parties, school celebrations and patriotic lighting all on the cards.

The tower of Pershore Abbey, which can be seen for miles across the district, was illuminated on the eve of the four-day celebrations to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.

Abbey bosses have often been forced to decline requests to light up the tower in different colours for awareness campaigns and events because only white light was available.

But thanks to the generosity of the Friends of Pershore Abbey, new lighting has just been installed offering a range of colour.

Canon Claire Lording, said: “We have had this project ready to go for some time but it has been held up due to Covid.

“How appropriate that Jubilee was the first use. We will not be in colour every week but hopefully in Purple for the Plum Fair.

“Our grateful thanks go to the Friends of Pershore Abbey who funded the long-awaited project and to our contractors A J Smith (Stonehouse) who worked late into the evening.”

Hosts of street parties were held across Evesham and Pershore including by the residents of Lichfield Avenue who marked the first day of the celebrations on Thursday (June 2) with an amazing afternoon organised by Jane Windfield.

Youngsters also played their part before the half-term holiday including those at St Andrew’s CE School who enjoyed a two-day celebration.

Pupils at the Hampton school marked the ‘Best of British’ by dressing up in red, white and blue, or their regal finery. They showcased their Royal poems, stories, songs and art work at the whole school outdoor assembly and enjoyed a delicious street party style picnic.
