EVESHAM marked VJ day on Tuesday, August 15 with a poignant annual parade and service in the town.
Armed forces veterans were joined outside the Almonry Museum by local councillors and Wychavon Council chairman Coun Robert Raphael.
The service, held to mark the anniversary of the Victory over Japan, was officiated by town Mayor Coun Alan Booth and the chairman of the Evesham branch of the Royal British Legion.
It was conducted by the branch’s chaplain, Rev Andy Green, while Lt Col (Ret`d) Mark Jackson OBE, former Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment, addressed the parade.
In a moving moment, Philip Milward played the last post and reveille, after which wreaths were laid by dignitaries including John Smith OBE on behalf of the Burma Star Memorial Fund and Phillip Rowne-Speed for the local branch of The Royal British Legion.
While VE Day marked the end of the Second World War in Europe in May 1945, many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in conflict in the Far East.
VJ Day marks in effect the end of the Second World War and is sometimes seen as a forgotten victory.
