A DEVOTED health campaigner was on hand as the Queen’s Baton Relay made a stop in Pershore where hundreds lined the streets to cheer on charity champions.

Michael Amies was honoured with a role as batonbearer in recognition of years of support to raise awareness about organ donation in Worcestershire.

Anurag Nair was handed the honour of being one of four batonbearers in the town and brought it into Bridge Street to mark the start of celebrations.

He handed over the baton to Dominque Tan to the sound of celebration as Pershore turned out in its droves to mark the final week countdown to the start of Birmingham 2022

A former chair of the Worcestershire Organ Donation Committee, Mr Amies delighted the crowds before passing on the baton to Kiaragh Brown.

The Year 12 Prince Henry’s High School student was nominated for her tireless charity and community work over the past four years.

Birmingham 2022’S Commonweath Games runs until August 8.
