THE COMMUNITY of Evesham came together in large numbers to commemorate Remembrance Sunday with a service at All Saints Church preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony at war memorial in Abbey Park.

Dark skies changed into sunshine as a significant parade commanded by Councillor Emma Kersey made its way down High Street headed by Avon Valley Brass.

Several hundred people of all ages lined the streets to watch it pass by.

Among the dignitaries who attended were the Deputy Lieutenant for Worcestershire, Nicholas Wentworth-Stanley and Nigel Huddleston MP for Droitwich and Evesham.

Also present was the town mayor Councillor Robert Raphael, along with the Mayoress Counc Marion Griffiths.

Prayers during the ceremony at the war memorial were read by the Revd Caroline Green.

Last Post and Reveille was performed with accomplishment by Stephen Lane of Avonbank Brass Band.

Once again the assembled crowd was honoured with the presence of 103-year-old Second World War RAF veteran, Jeff Brereton who as its president laid a wreath on behalf of the Evesham branch of the Royal Air Force Association.

There were eleven standards on display.

After the church service the parade formed in the driveway of St Lawrence’s Church and marched down Vine Street for the salute and on to Market Square where it was dismissed.

There were refreshments served in the town hall for those who had taken part.
