A RECORD 500 runners attended this year’s colour run at The Valley to help celebrate the British Asparagus season in the Vale of Evesham.

In its third year, the event was supported by established rock group Chasing Deer and Touch FM’s radio hosts Simon and Ollie. The British Asparagus Festival team were also involved, seeing Gus – The Asparagus Man enjoying selfies with runners all morning.

Phil Maclean, marketing manager at The Valley said: “This was the third year of delivering the colour run and we are delighted to see the support it continues to receive which saw an increase on lasts years numbers by 66 per cent.

“Year on year we’ve increased our investment in this event as we are passionate to see families getting active while at the same time helping to promote the British Asparagus Festival.”

Coun Gerry O’Donnell, portfolio holder for Health and Wellbeing at Wychavon District Council said “It was wonderful to see people of all ages participating in the Asparagus Fun Run at the Valley.

“Being active at all ages is so important for our residents’ health and well-being and what better way to do this than to celebrate our local Asparagus with a fun run.

“Of course, you do not need to run to get the health benefits of exercise. Simply walking the dog, or long walks in our beautiful countryside will benefit your health, both physical and mental.

“Congratulations to the winners on Sunday……stay active, stay fit,” he added.
