Hundreds book in for activities

Evesham Editorial 13th Aug, 2018   0

HUNDREDS of Mischief Makers from across Worcestershire enjoyed fun activities at a National Trust site near Pershore for its second Summer Reading Challenge activity day.

Organised by Worcestershire Libraries and Learning Service, the day saw hundreds of children and families enjoying the scorching weather at Croome Court.

The day rewarded those who have already read two books as part of the challenge or those who signed up on the day.

There was something for everybody with talks from the world famous author Jonathan Meres, creator of The World of Norm series, Hip Hop poetry from shortlisted Birmingham Poet Laureate Kurly McGeachie as well as LEGO workshops, performances from Secret City Arts and story walks taking families around the beautiful parkland.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for communities at Worcestershire County Council, said: “We have had thousands of children from all over Worcestershire sign up so far and we are not even close to the end.

“There is still plenty of time to join in this wonderful challenge and keep your child’s passion for reading continuing throughout the summer.

“Simply pop in to your local library and speak to a member of staff who will sign you up.”

The next Summer Reading Challenge day at Croome is taking place on Wednesday, August 22 and is free entry to those who have read four books as part of the challenge.

August’s special guest author is Kita Mitchell, author of Grandma Dangerous and the Dog of Destiny, who will be giving a talk as well as doing a book signing.

Kurly McGeachie will be returning with more of his hip hop poetry as well as Secret City Arts, LEGO workshops and story walks around the beautiful Croome grounds.
