Huddleston lands a role in the culture and media department

EVESHAM’s MP Nigel Huddleston has been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Mr Huddleston had first been appointed as a PPS in July 2017 to assist the DCMS ministerial team but has been promoted to assist new cabinet minister and Secretary of State Matt Hancock MP.

Mr Huddleston’s role will involve liaising with industry bodies and assisting the Secretary of State in his communication with backbench MPs.

This entails making sure that the views and opinions of MPs are known to the Secretary of State, as well as helping him prepare for debates and answering questions in the House of Commons.

Though it is not a government role, the position of PPS allows for extensive interaction with the Department and ministers, with the role often described as representing the ‘eyes and ears’ of ministers in Parliament.

The Mid Worcestershire MP said: “I am delighted to have been reappointed as a PPS and particularly to have been given the opportunity to continue working for the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

“DCMS is intricately involved in issues that are vitally important to my constituents including broadband, heritage, tourism and the tech sector.

“It is a privilege to have been granted a position in such a vital department and I look forward to playing my role in bringing forward new policies which will be of benefit not just to my constituents, but the whole of the UK.”
