A BRAND-NEW season for Evesham and District Music Club kicks off with the talents of two accomplished musicians.

The opening concert of this, its 74th season, will see well-known harpist Elizabeth Bass and the flautist Dan Shao take to the stage at All Saints Church in Evesham, on Thursday, May 19, at 7.30pm.

It is said that their playing is full of passion, musical storytelling and dream-like soundscapes and the performance will be a welcome tonic for the club after two barren years because of the pandemic.

Club chairman Oliver Lister hailed the return of the club’s programme after two ‘very uncertain years when live music was in the doldrums’.

“It’s great to be able to launch a new season and bring wonderful classical music back to the Vale of Evesham,” he said.

“We have a programme of concerts which will showcase a variety of instrumentalists and groups – all of whom are first class artists who often play in the main concert arenas of Birmingham, London and abroad.

“Other artists include violinist Savva Zverev and pianist Sid Ramchander, the Pleyel Ensemble, the Aquarius String Quarter and the Mithras Trio.

“We had the famous pianist Alexander Soares play for us at the Henrician. A large audience listened to his superb playing which shows that there are music lovers out there wanting to hear live music again.

Everyone is most welcome to attend any of the concerts, which all take place at All Saints Church and music lovers again have the opportunity to become a member.

In addition to the savings on ticket prices, members can save 25 per cent on the club’s five concerts this year at a cost of £75.

Evesham and District Music Club has been in existence since 1949 and continues to promote concerts. It has brought great names to the town over the years including Dame Isobel Baillie, Evelyn Barbirolli , Jack Brymer, Craig Ogden, Emma Kirkby, Ben Grosvenor, Jayson Gillham, Matthew Scott, Roderick Williams and well as many quartets and trios which have gone on to make their mark in the classical charts.
