Hospice to open garden to raise cash

A COUNTY children’s charity is inviting members of the public to discover its beautiful gardens and even take home a plant or two.

Acorns Children’s Hospice is holding an Open Garden afternoon on Saturday (May 11) allowing visitors a chance to explore its beautifully kept garden sanctuary.

The event at the hospice in Bath Road is being held to raise funds for Acorns work caring for local children and families.

Susan Hayward, head of care at Acorns for the Three Counties, said: “Whether you love gardening or are just looking to enjoy some cake in lovely surroundings, this is the event for you. We’ll have lots going on for the whole family including a raffle, plant sale and tours to see inside our wonderful hospice, as well as plenty of tea and cake.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care to life limited and life threatened children and young people and support for their families across Worcester and the Three Counties.

The hospice gardens are designed with the children and their families in mind, from wheelchair accessible pathways to colourful views from the children’s bedroom windows.

“The hospice gardens are so important to the children and families at Acorns. They provide a quiet sanctuary where families can reflect, a place where children and siblings can enjoy playing together and even provide sensory stimulation with different sights, smells and sounds,” Susan added.

“They enable children and families to spend quality time together outside making precious memories that they can treasure. They really are a labour of love and we’d urge anyone to come and explore and help support the vital care we provide to children and families.”

In the past year, Acorns has provided care to more than 210 children and over 300 families across Worcester and the Three Counties, including those who are bereaved.

The event will take place between 2pm and 5pm, costs £2 to enter and is free for under 16s.
