MUSIC lovers are being invited to enjoy an afternoon with the Shipston Town Band in aid of Pershore Midsummer Brass.

The afternoon of music will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 2pm and will raise cash for next year’s event.

The event will be held in the beautiful Pershore Abbey with tickets at £10 available on the door, or beforehand from Blue on Broad Street, Pershore.

Shipston-on-Stour Town Band is more than 100 years old, having given its first public performance in 1912.

It has gone from strength to strength, now supporting three bands: Stour Concert Brass, Shipston Town Band and SJB Training Band.

The Shipston Town band is conducted by David Birch, an experienced and highly competent euphonium player who has spent many years working with, encouraging and training the Band’s many future players and running the band.

Members are celebrating a year to remember with 14-year-old band member Luke Barker taking top cornet chair in the National Youth Children’s Band.

Young solo cornet player Grace Coates passed her Association Board Grade Six examination with distinction and the band as a whole took sixth place in the Midland Area Brass Band Championships.

Chairman of the Pershore Midsummer Brass organising committee John West said: “Most year’s we organise fund-raising concerts for Pershore Midsummer Brass.

“This year we are delighted to welcome Shipston Town Band who are well known in the area and have an excellent reputation for good music.”
