Homebuilder’s £1,000 boost for school play space

A PINVIN school has been handed a £1,000 funding boost, thanks to regional housebuilder Persimmon Homes South Midlands.

The Pinvin Friends Association is raising money to create a dedicated outdoor area and applied to Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme for a donation. This was sparked by the housebuilder’s desire to support regional charities, organisations and good causes.

Kerry Sinnett, of Pinvin Friends Association, said the pandemic had had a dramatic impact on their ability to organise events and activities to raise money, which has left their finances quite low.

“In addition to the financial effects, Covid has also seen a significant rise in awareness of children’s mental health and overall well-being,” she said.

“Our plans are to create a reflection zone in an outdoor area which will include a sensory and mindfulness space where children can go to reflect and regulate their emotions, which in turn will help them to maintain focus on learning within the class situation.

“We have identified a small gated area which can be transformed into a sensory play space for the wider school community.

This would incorporate sand play, water games, touch pools, lights, sounds and outdoor Perspex mirrors, all of which encourage children to become independent learners with a positive growth mindset.”

Persimmon Homes South Midlands launched Community Champions with a view to helping community groups, charities and good causes across the region with two donations of up to £1,000 made locally every month.
