AN HISTORIC pub in the centre of Evesham is looking to make major improvements to its look and feel.
JS Properties of Wickhamford have submitted an application to restore the front elevation of the Red Lion at 6 Market Place to its original appearance.
The Grade II listed building, which is first recorded as being a public house in 1728 forms a significant part of the streetscape of the public square and whilst not the most prominent building, nevertheless has great historical importance in the overall setting.
Works include the replacement of existing pebble dash render at first floor level to a smooth lime-based render and the replacement of the steel-framed first floor windows with painted timber windows.
It is proposed that existing decayed timber sash and large paned windows on the ground floor will be replaced with traditional painted timber sash windows.
The modern timber entrance door will be replaced with a more traditional painted timber half-glazed door.
Also in the proposal is the reinstatement of a former timber guardrail that used to be fitted around the edge of the flat-roofed area.
Public feedback is being accepted via the Wychavon District Council planning website until March 5, 2026.
