Here's your chance to delve into the secretive world of the Evesham Freemasons

VALE residents will this weekend have the rare chance to delve into the secretive world of the Evesham Freemasons.

The historic organisation, which is celebrating its 300th anniversary this year, will be opening the doors to the Masonic Hall on Swan Lane this Saturday from 10am until 5pm.

It’s the fourth year running the Freemasons will be lifting the lid on their lodge, which is not normally open to the general public, as part of Heritage Open Day.

The Freemasons are taking part in the scheme in a bid to encourage new membership, as well as bring Freemasonry out into the open where they can showcase the work they do for the community.

They are also hoping to show visitors there is more to them then just being known for the use of handshakes, symbols and signs.

Last year Freemasons across the UK raised more than £3million for different charities and causes across the country.

The only membership requirements to become a Freemason are that a man, over the age of 21, must have no criminal convictions and must profess a belief in a supreme being ‘but who that supreme being might be is up to the individual.’
