Help to create a memorable poppy display for Remembrance

Evesham Editorial 9th Oct, 2020   0

A RALLYING call has been made for Evesham residents to be part of ‘something wonderful’ and help create a memorable display of poppies.

Tesco bosses on Worcester Road have made the call in response to the decimated Remembrance services next month because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

There will be no parades or church services in Evesham next month and as a result supermarket chiefs have launched an emotional appeal in a bid to show their respect for the fallen.

Vale residents have been asked to make a poppy to form part of what Tesco hopes will be a ‘magnificent’ display in the store’s foyer.

It can be knitted, crocheted, made from tissue paper, egg boxes, plastic bottles, drawn, painted or any other way you can be creative.

Any sizes are welcome and while staff are seeking individual poppies there is no limit to how many people can make.

Creative residents have until Saturday, October 24 to drop their efforts off to staff to start the display.

From October 26 residents will be invited to attach their own poppies to the display in person.

Lindsay Roach, community champion at Evesham Tesco, said: “Our attempt is to fill the foyer window with a mass of poppies by Remembrance Sunday on November 8 to pay our respects to those who have given so much.

“This is open to individuals, groups and businesses, all contributions gratefully received.”

Donations to the Poppy Appeal can be made in store this year and paper poppy’s will be on sale.

Tesco’s plans have been supported by the town’s Poppy Appeal co-ordinator Fiona George.
