Help Pershore Abbey realise its Pipe Dream

Evesham Editorial 13th Dec, 2020   0

STUCK for the perfect Christmas gift? Why not consider supporting Pershore Abbey’s Pipe Dream appeal and donating a pipe as part of the appeal for the New Pipe Organ.

Pipes can be donated from £25 to £500 and make the perfect and unique gift for music lovers, to mark a special occasion and to support Pershore Abbey.

Work on delivering Pershore Abbey’s new pipe organ is well underway. The organ is now being built at the Fratelli Ruffatti factory in Padua, Italy. It will be shipped to the UK and transported to Pershore for installation by their skilled craftsmen towards the end of 2021.

Significant progress has been achieved despite the lockdown that temporarily suspended work during the coronavirus lockdown in Italy.

The enabling works to accommodate the new organ in the Abbey commenced in January 2020. This has included the installation of the steel support beams and platforms on which the two organ casings will sit; the installation of a new access ladder and platform to the north aisle roof space; the installation of a blower room in the north aisle roof space and the removal and subsequent replacement of the tiles of the north aisle roof after new felting had been installed.

By becoming a Piper and donating a pipe residents will be supporting the return of wonderful pipe organ music back to Pershore Abbey.

Pipers will be provided with a gift certificate and special pin badge to say thank you.

Rev Claire Lording, Priest in Charge at Pershore Abbey is looking forward to welcoming the community and enjoying music events together again: “It’s been wonderful how so many people have supported this exciting project by donating a pipe.

“Having the pipes engraved to remember a special anniversary or event, a family member or in memory of a loved one has been important to so many. Those community stories will always be part of the Abbey’s new organ. And we really can’t wait for the organ to be at the heart of so many community musical events and concerts in the future.”
